Monster

By: Brandon Voong

From the shadows, the monster appeared,

Sinking its claws into my darkest fears.

I struggled, I cried, I couldn’t run,

It wouldn’t listen, but I was too young.

In the dark, my vision would tunnel,

Past the times I wasn’t so careful.

The monster drove me into the ground,

A hopeless future, a kingdom-less crown.

I couldn’t escape the constant unrest,

It stalked my dreams, its mirrored eyes obsessed.

I’ve been running ever since that night,

I’ve been running from the monster inside.
